Bringing the wonder of colourful fine jewelry to Scandinavia
Natural sapphires are rarer than natural diamonds & rank 9 on the Mohs hardness scale making it a perfect stone to set your heirloom pieces with.
From royal collections to red carpets, the wonder of coloured gemstones have captivated the world for centuries. At Asha, we are proud to bring a piece of this exquisite world of rare, natural gemstones to Sweden and beyond.
Designed in Stockholm, ethically sourced & expertly handcrafted in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka produces some of the world’s most sought after sapphires and coloured gemstones. In fact, one of the rarest gemstones in the world, the Paddparadsha Sapphire is named after the Sinhala (Sri Lankan) Sanskrit word for lotus.
To support local communities, the Sri Lankan government prohibits the export of rough, uncut gemstones (with the exception of Geuda). This ensures that every valuable stone mined within the country is also faceted and polished locally. By keeping this value-added process within Sri Lanka, the country directly fosters and sustains their ancient, world-renowned craft of hand-artisanal mining and faceting gemstones.
Meet the Founder
Asha is a Stockholm-based fine jewlery brand founded by Navodinee. Asha pays homage to her memories of growing up surrounded by Sri Lanka’s thriving gem industry at her family holiday home in Ratnapura, the aincient city of gems.
Navodinee’s exposure to the industry as a child, the deep appreciation she has for expert craftsmanship, as well as her deep connection to fine jewellery through her South Asian heritage has culminated in the creation of Asha Stockholm.
This is her attempt to honour her Sri Lankan roots and bring the wonder of coloured precious natural gemstones to her new home in Sweden.
Our approach
-
At Asha, we exclusively working with solid 18k gold and natural gemstones, specialising in Ceylon sapphires.
All our centre stones are certified natural by the Gemmological Institute of Colombo.
Solid 18k gold is also hypoallergenic making it perfect for daily use if cared for correctly.
-
At Asha, our gemstones are mindfully sourced from Sri Lanka, a country with centuries-old heritage of artisanal mining.
Gemstone mining as a traditional industry in Sri Lanka runs way back to the era of ancient kings. The traditional, environment friendly and ethical mining methods practiced under the regulatory supervision of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) have set many benchmarks in the international Gemstone Mining Arena. Furthermore, traditional mining methods perfected over centuries have indeed been the primary reason for the minimum incidents of mining accidents recorded in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s gemstone industry is a vital source of income to local mining communities that have been practicing this skill for generations.
